Silverstone Classic – Club Report

Kicking off the Summer Season with…..

Silverstone Classic

After months of planning the weekend had finally arrived. With a busy set up day on the Thursday, Alex and I were ready to start the weekend and meet all the members. This is my third Silverstone Classic event for the BMW CC and it’s truly one of my favourites.

7am Friday and we were on site. By 9am the heavens had opened, which didn’t put all our members off, and we had around 30 cars on display. The 3 Series parade lap went ahead and I think around 16 cars went out, despite it still raining. Everyone enjoyed it and the feedback was great. Thanks to the Goose team who helped organise the parade lap.

Saturday, and we had a busy day ahead with over 280 cars on display. It was all hands on deck to get everyone parked up. Thank you to Dave and Jan Evans, Dean and Dennis from Central West, Pip Howell from Central and Club Chairman Richard Baxter for all putting on the Hi Vis jackets. With 280 BMWs coming through the gate, it’s safe to say I now have a better knowledge of all the models. Thank you to all who patiently educated us on the weekend. With the sun out, nearly everyone turned up and we even managed to get some of our new members’ cars onto the display.

Simon Alcorn organised the Alpinas and did a tremendous job with over 60 Alpinas on display. Each driver received a goody bag from Sytner. The parade lap was planned for Saturday evening and with the sun still shining, they all went on track.

The Club stand was supported by Wollaston BMW and North Oxford BMW this year, who kindly provided us with the i8 and M4 for the weekend. This was a great attraction for the Club stand. They even left the doors open and you could jump in for a quick snap.

Sunday, and the heavens opened again, but that didn’t stop most of our members attending. The Club trailer certainly came in handy for this weekend, providing our members with tea and coffee and also somewhere to escape from the rain for ten minutes. I think it’s safe to say the show had finished around 2pm and everyone was slowly packing up. Thank you to all who helped pack up the Club stand. It is truly appreciated.

Thank you to Mike and Kim Colls who ran the Club shop for the weekend. I think he managed to sell all his umbrellas and rain coats! Hopefully you will all see some new clothing ideas over the next few months. Remember you can still purchase Club merchandise on the Club website.

British Radio Controlled Cars joined us again this year. Alan and his team joined us for the three days and went down great with the families who attended. Alan and his team have supported us at a few national events and it’s a great attraction for children.

Certainly looking forward to next year at Silverstone Classic, with lots of plans in the pipeline to celebrate the 100 years anniversary.

And finally a huge welcome to the 26 new members who joined over the weekend. It’s great to see so many new faces at these events and certainly makes it worthwhile attending (even if it’s pouring down).
