Article – South Wales Region’s Autumn Run

On Sunday 6th October we had our Autumn Run around Mid Wales. Our very own Phil Marker organised the route for us as usual, and I arranged our midday lunch booking and took deposits from everyone.

We all met up early on the Sunday morning at Penllergaer Services J47 M4, so we could have some Gregg’s bacon rolls and coffee for breakfast. We then sorted out our new licenced two-way radios that a lot of us have invested in for our convoys. There was rain forecast but we were very lucky, and it was due to be dry until about 3pm.

We made our way down the motorway to Carmarthen, where we met up with another of our members Mark, who lives down that way.

We then headed up towards Lampeter stopping off at Norwood Gardens near Pencader for refreshments at their tea room. It was run by a nice friendly couple, and the place was very quiet as it was out of season but the coffee was lovely, and there was plenty of space to park our nine BMWs.

Once we were refreshed we continued on our journey up through Ceredigion and on to Tregaron, where we encountered a lot of sheep in the road with farmers. We all sat quietly and nervous as the large horned rams walked past our pride and joys. We then set off unscathed to Devil’s Bridge, where our lunch stop was booked at the Hafod Hotel. We’ve been there many times before, and the food is always gorgeous, so no doubt we’ll be back again soon. There’s also a huge car park just up the hill from there, so there’s always room for our Bavarian beauties.

When our bellies were full, we set off again to the Elan Valley. There’s some great driving roads and stunning scenery there, and it was the closest we’ve come to Scotland since returning from our NC500 Road Trip in September. After quite a few photo stops, and me risking ‘Life and Limb’ climbing high up hills to take the photos, we all split up on the way home and head off in different directions to where we all lived. A few of us headed back to Llandeilo and back onto the M4 motorway.

I must thank Phil Marker once again for planning our scenic route, and a big thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend. It was very enjoyable as usual, and a good day was had by all. Cheers guys, and safe driving!
