BMW is celebrating the 30 year anniversary of its class leading sports saloon, the M3, with a special edition car of which only 30 will come to the UK.
It’s 30 years since the launch of the first M3, the M badge first going on a 3 Series in 1986, to create the iconic E30 M3.
The M3 may be only a saloon now – with the coupe having recently been renamed the M4 – but the anniversary edition is still fitting, with past generations of M3s having being available as saloons and coupes.
The special edition ’30 Jahre Edition’ (jahre being German for year) has the M3 competition package as standard, which gives an increase of 19bhp over the standard car. This provides the BMW with 450bhp and a 0-62 time of 4.0 seconds. The car also features Adaptive M suspension, which increases mechanical grip.
Unique to the special edition model are new springs, dampers and stabilisers, as well as modified patterns for the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ driving modes. Furthermore, the Active M differential is also modified, with corresponding adjustments to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC).
All of these changes provide a small performance increase over the standard M3, such as 0.1 second decrease in the 0-62 time.
Aesthetically, the car receives 20-inch ‘666 M star’ alloy wheels and numerous carbon inserts around the body, such as the tailpipe and front splitter.
The interior fitted to the car is the the standard M Sport package, but adorned with numerous ’30 Jahre’ logos, such as on the door sills, instrument panel and headrests.
Only 30 cars will be coming to the UK, fittingly, and will be priced at 82,675 OTR.
