BMW Car Club GB Track Day Information:
- What exactly are track days?
Track days are organised events where individuals can drive their own vehicles on a race circuit without the competitive pressure of a race.
These events allow drivers to explore the performance of their cars in a controlled environment, much safer than public roads.
- Who can participate in track days?
Anyone with a valid UK driver’s or race license can participate.
No prior track experience is necessary, although some organisers offer introductory sessions for novices.
- What types of vehicles are allowed?
BMW Car Club GB track days welcome all makes and types of vehicles, from standard road cars to modified sports cars and even purpose-built race cars. Unsurprisingly, most club members use BMWs or Minis
However, your vehicle must be in good mechanical condition.
Some venues have noise restrictions, so it’s important to check if your vehicle meets the noise criteria.
- How do I choose the right track day event for my skill level?
Choosing the right event is crucial, especially for beginners. BMW Car Club GB trackdays are ideal for beginners due to the friendly club atmosphere and good driving standards.
. What should I expect on the day?
A typical track day begins with a mandatory driver’s briefing covering safety protocols and track rules. Following the briefing and sighting laps, the track is open throughout the day, except for lunch and possible safety interruptions.
- How do I prepare myself and my car for a track day?
Personal preparation:
– Ensure you have appropriate safety gear, including a helmet. Some BMW Car Club GB trackdays offer helmet hire.
– Wear appropriate clothing: long sleeves, long trousers, and closed-toe shoes.
Car preparation:
– Check fluid levels (oil, brake fluid, coolant).
– Inspect brakes, tyres, and ensure all lights are functioning.
– Secure any loose items inside the car or remove them.
- What are common beginner mistakes at track days and how can I avoid them?
Common mistakes include overdriving the car, neglecting tyre and brake and cool-down, and ignoring vehicle maintenance. To avoid these, take it slow, focus on learning the track and your car, and ask for advice from fellow club members at the trackday.
- What safety measures are in place?
Safety is paramount at track days. Marshals manage incidents and ensure rules are followed. Ambulance and fire services are typically on standby. BMW Car Club GB track days pride themselves on good, respectful driving standards from all. Overtaking rules are clearly defined to minimise risk.
- How much does it cost to do a TrackDay?
Costs vary but typically range from £175 to £250 for a day. Additional costs may include second drivers, passengers and garage hire.
- Are there community aspects or networking opportunities at track days?
BMW Car Club GB Track days are social events where participants share a passion for cars and the BMW ethos, perfect for networking and making new friends.
- What are the insurance implications of participating in track days?
Regular car insurance does not typically cover track day activities. Specialised track day insurance is recommended to cover potential damage, available from providers like HOWDEN & FOOTMAN JAMES INSURANCE.
- How do I handle vehicle breakdowns or emergencies on the track?
Stay calm, signal to other drivers, and manoeuvre your car to a safe location. Have a basic toolkit and spare parts like tyres and fluids in your paddock area.
- Can I rent a vehicle specifically for track use, and what are the pros and cons?
Renting a track-specific vehicle can be a great option but may be more expensive than using your own car. Providers like Track Day Hire offer a range of vehicles prepared for track use.
- What are the benefits of participating in BMW Car Club GB track days?
Participating allows drivers to develop skills, experience their vehicle’s capabilities, enjoy the thrill of a professional race circuit, and connect with a community of enthusiasts.
In conclusion, participating in a BMW Car Club GB track day is an excellent way to enhance your driving skills, meet fellow BMW enthusiasts, and enjoy the thrill of racing in a safe environment.
