Symptoms
When attempting to open or close the car remotely with the key, the car makes a sound as though it is trying to open or close and the interior lights operate, but the car will not lock or unlock. A second key operates the car with no issues.
Cause
If you have had to replace the battery in your key, this could be due to the battery being dead for a while and the car needs to sync again with the key.
Resolution
If you have ensured that the battery is charged, by driving around for an hour or two. You need a good long run to charge a “dead” battery
If charging does not work, replace the battery.
If you replace the battery and you still have the issue, follow the steps below in order to “reset” the key and sync it to the car.
- Enter the vehicle with the working key
- Close all the doors
- Put the “dead” key into the ignition
- Press and hold the central locking button.
- Whilst holding the central locking button, press and release the start/stop button (don’t press down on the clutch or the brake peddles)
- Release the central locking button
- Wait for an acoustic signal. This can take up to 30 seconds.
- Test the remote access
If you still have issues, engage the services of a mobile automotive locksmith, or have your dealer investigate.
Notes
- If multiple keys are not working, then there could be an issue with a door solenoid.
