East Anglia Sponsored By :-
The East Anglia Region is one of the largest and most successful in the country having seen an expansion in its membership by 24% in 2012 alone. It extends from the river Thames in the South to the North Sea and the Wash in the North. The counties of Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire are within its borders.
Each county has its own separate branch representative and Norfolk also has a Deputy Assistant as well. Pub meets take place every month in each county and so you are never far away from one if you would like to meet up for a social chat with fellow BMW Car enthusiasts. Help and advice is available on technical matters or indeed specialists that come recommended for such things as bodywork repairs or wheel refurbishment and often a discount is available for Club members.
We offer a full and varied range of events, over 20 in total such as shows, outings, special visits that take place especially in the summer, which you, your family and friends can share and enjoy with us. Our major show we attend is the Duxford Spring Car Show, which takes place in May and sees 300 BMWs of all types attending plus the Air Museum itself which makes for a full interesting and absorbing day out. We share this event with adjoining Regions namely Central in particular.
We have also affiliated ourselves with other Car Clubs namely the Chelmer Valley Car Meets (CVCM) in Essex and the Norfolk Classic Car Club. This again enables us to enjoy participating in a much wider and varied list of events. These outings are not always restricted to owners of classic BMWs as we can participate ‘as a Club’ enabling Members with more modern BMW’s to take part.
We have close ties with many of the main BMW Dealers from whom you can often receive discounts on parts and servicing. We regularly supply Members' cars for special showroom displays to sit alongside specific new BMW model launches. We look forward to welcoming you into joining our successful and happy Region.
East Anglia Relay Runs - by George.4th August 2016
At the time of writing I only have the opportunity of mentioning a couple of outings we enjoyed.
The first was a great outing to the Bubble Car Museum near Boston, Lincolnshire. It was the perfect event as it entailed an early start together with linking up with other members en route with two different venues for Breakfast. We all finally linked up for the final leg to the museum. A great summers day, a nice long drive in our BMWs, fun and good humoured banter all the way, what more could you ask. The museum was small but well worth a visit and included a Goggomobil and an Isetta. Great fun was had erecting our Gazebo, my contribution being standing around giving useless instructions, which I am sure were appreciated – Not.
The next memorable trip was the Three Halls Classic Car Run organised by the Norfolk Hospice. 150 cars of all types and again great sunshine and driving through lovely countryside made all the more exciting as being the first such event organised by the Hospice, some of the directions were a little vague. All this added to the excitement as you saw cars coming back towards you that you that had left well before you. How silly they were you thought until you realised you were lost as well and had been following on like sheep. Definitely a case of the blind leading the blind. We should certainly try to get involved in more events that mean we can actually get to drive our cars on the road through lovely scenery. Both of the above events counted as our Relay in total about 452 miles achieved.
